Although there are a couple of things that can cause this error the most common reason is that the host is unable to resolve the name of the VMware ESX or Time to search the VMware Knowledge Base. I don't believe it would be fixed after a reboot if it was DNS. If I recall correctly, there's also another issue with HP host management utils that can trigger the MKS failure. To resolve or not to resolve? That is the question…. My hunch about DHCP was because a reboot fixed the problem (it'd be at least renewing it's lease, maybe getting a new one).
