I understand in order to do this, I'd have to select Recreate Desktop. Both disks had been attached as physical disks to the virtual server under Hyper-V.

When the guest "freezes", the host also gets frozen soon (after 1-10 minutes) and I cannot do anything but powercycle the entire physical machine.
